If you created an Ancestry® account using Sign up with Google/Apple, you might not yet have an Ancestry password.
There may be cases when you need an Ancestry password (like Deleting Your Ancestry® Account). There are a few ways to create an Ancestry password for your account:
If you can access your Ancestry Account
- Go to Account settings. If prompted, sign in.
- Under Account information, select Create password >.
- Enter the email address associated with your Ancestry account and choose Continue.
Do not close or navigate away from this page. A password reset code will be sent to that email address and you’ll need to enter it on that page.
- In a separate tab or window, check your email inbox for the code.
Not Getting Ancestry® Emails?
- On the Password Reset page or tab you left open, enter the code and select Continue.
This code is case-sensitive and must be used within 2 hours. If it’s been longer than 2 hours, request a new code.
- Create a new password, then re-enter it and select Continue to confirm your password.
Passwords are case-sensitive, should not be common or well-known, and must:
- be at least 8 characters
- contain at least 1 number
- contain 1 letter or special symbol
If you can’t access your Ancestry Account
- Go to Ancestry® sign in.
- Select Don’t know your password?
- Enter the email address associated with your Ancestry account and choose Continue. An email with further instructions will be sent to that email address.
