Deleting a tree you created
When you delete a tree that you created or uploaded, it’s permanently deleted from Ancestry®. If any facts or media were already on the site before being attached to your tree, or if your tree was ever public, facts or media in your tree may remain on the site. When your tree is deleted, the tree name may continue to appear in search results until family trees are next indexed, but someone who clicks on the tree name would see a message saying the tree was removed. Deleting a tree also permanently deletes any connected networks, including their stickies.
- From any page on Ancestry, click the Trees tab and select a family tree.
- In the toolbar on the left, click More (three dots) and select Tree Settings.
- In the bottom-right corner of the Tree Settings page, click the Delete your tree link. Once a tree is deleted, it can't be recovered.
- Click Delete.
Removing a tree shared with you
If you remove a tree someone else shared with you, their tree will not be deleted, it just won't appear in your list of trees anymore. The tree owner will not be notified that you removed the tree.
- From any page on Ancestry, click the Trees tab and select Create & Manage Trees.
- Above the list of trees, click the Trees Shared with Me tab.
- Click the Remove from list link to the right of a tree.
- Click OK.
